Related forms
The functionality of Related Forms provides the option to connect the forms that have associated details, allowing for direct connection between data elements and helping to avoid discrepancies.
Important
The configuration of related forms is performed in Study Designer (SD). To learn more, refer to the Edit related form settings and Add reference item to question sections.
This approach to form linking is most efficient for aligning the medication details of the subject and the specific events for which it was taken, thus, giving a clear relation of the drug and indication. This aids in the transparency and precision of further data analysis in product or case assessment.
For instance, you have the Concomitant Medication form with the Indication question that represents the type of event for which the drug is taken, and there are two possible answers—adverse event (AE) or medical history (MH). Since all the subject's AEs are traced with the Adverse Events form and MH data is recorded via the Medical History form, you might want to link the drug in the Concomitant Medication form to specific records of the subject's AE or MH to be able to see for which exactly disease or symptom the drug was taken.
Utilizing the related forms functionality, you can configure the following fields' relation on the Concomitant Medication form via SD:
-
If AE, specify the AE record number: add this field to the form and associate it with the related item of the specific Adverse Events form.
-
If MH, specify the MH record number: add this field to the form and associate it with the related item of the specific Medical History form.
Once such configuration is pushed to EDC, upon data entry you can select the following:
Indication = adverse event (AE)
If AE, specify the AE record number = 1, 2, 3
Where 1, 2, and 3 are the serial numbers of the AE records for which the medication was taken by the subject.
Now your data is interconnected allowing for direct reference between the drug and the subject's health conditions.
In the following sections, you can learn how to maintain the related forms in EDC:
