View split rules
The View Existing Split Rules functionality helps you access and review the currently defined split rules that govern how verbatim terms are segmented in the medical coding process. This capability is essential for ensuring transparency and understanding of how data segmentation is managed.
With the ability to view existing split rules, you can do the following:
-
Inspect rule details: access and review specifics for each split rule, including the verbatim term, supplemental variables, and the expected result. This helps you understand the logic behind each segmentation rule.
-
Verify compliance: confirm that the defined split rules align with coding standards and requirements of your study, ensuring that data segmentation adheres to established guidelines within the organization.
-
Analyze rule effectiveness: evaluate the impact of each split rule on data handling to identify any areas that may require adjustments or improvements for enhanced accuracy and consistency.
-
In the Medical Coding application header, select the CONFIGURATION tab.

Column
Details
Verbatim Term
The specific term being segmented.
Supplemental Variables
Additional variables related to the term.
Result
The outcome of the segmentation process.
Last Modified Time
The date and time when the rule was last updated.
Last Modified by
The user who last modified the rule.
Status
Indicates whether the rule is Active or Inactive:
-
Active: the split rule can be used for segmenting verbatim terms in the medical coding process, influencing how terms are divided and interpreted according to the specified conditions and logic.
-
Inactive: the split rule cannot be used for data segmentation. Inactive rules are excluded from the segmentation workflows, meaning they do not impact how verbatim terms are processed or interpreted. This status allows for the temporary suspension of a rule’s application while retaining it in the system for potential future use, making it easy to reactivate when needed.

Now, you have reviewed the exact split rule configurations and understood the detailed logic and parameters defining how the rule segments verbatim terms used in a study.
