Destruction of site items

Item destruction refers to the process of disposing of or destroying an investigational product or other unused medication when they are no longer needed, damaged, or for another reason. It is an important step in ensuring the proper management and disposal of these items to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, participant safety, and confidentiality.

In IWRS, the sites involved in your trial can be granted permission to destroy items themselves by enabling the item destruction. To assist site personnel in managing data on each item that is ready for destruction or already destroyed, the Destruction feature is available. Depending on your study configurations, there are two ways of handling the item destruction at sites:

  • Destroy single or multiple items: with this functionality, you can access the list of items ready for destruction at the site and directly dispose of them one by one or in bulk.

    Important

To enable this functionality, turn off the Enable Destruction Batch toggle on the Study Information page.

  • Create item destruction batches: with this functionality, you can access the list of items ready for destruction at the site and create destruction batches—bundles of items that are to be destroyed together—and approve their disposal.

    Important

To enable this functionality, turn on the Enable Destruction Batch toggle on the Study Information page.
